Yves St-Laurent, full name: Yves-Henri-Donat-Mathieu Saint Laurent was born in august 1,1936 in Oran Algeria. He died June 1, 2008. He's a French Fashion Designer that popularize the women's trousers for all occasions. When he ended is secondary education, he moved to Paris to pursue his career in the design of theatrical costumes and Women's fashions.He attended school for a short time and he won an international prize. Then, Vogue magazine executive showed Christian Dior some of Yves Saint Laurent sketches. He was hired immediately at the age of 17. As Dior student, St-Laurent was named the head of the house of Dior at Dior's death in 1957. He introduced more sophisticated, longer skirts and in 1959, then shortened the skirts. in 1960, he introduced the turtles neck and black leather jacket edges with fur. After his service into the french army, Saint Laurent suffered of an nervous collapse and was replaced at the head of the house of Dior. in 1962, he opened his own fashion house and rapidly became one of the most influential designer in Paris. In the 70's he was inspired by ethnic costume,and introduced the haute peasant look. In the 1960's and 70's his house expanded to ready-to-wear, fragrances,accessories and men clothing in his couture business. in 1983, the metropolitan Museum of Art in New York held a exhibition of Saint Laurent's designs. He then sold his ready-to-wear to Gucci for some 1 billion in 1999. He shut down his couture house and he retired in 2007. Two year later , his collection he made with Pierre Berge, his partner, was auctioned for more than 260 million dollars. A breaking record price for a private art collection.
